we’re all unlearning problematic things and we’re all doing it at our own paces and from our own starting points. i think we could all try to remember that when we’re engaging with discourse around here, and remember to let people grow without punishing them for what they didn’t know, once.
like, especially—but certainly not exclusively—young people may be coming out of sheltered, abusive situations, out of grooming, out of brainwashing. just because you were lucky enough at 16 to have access to left-leaning resources, to feminism and queer activism… doesn’t mean other people have anything like that background.
be patient. be kind. be understanding. don’t excuse harm done, but don’t let those mistakes unnecessarily stifle growth.
